Now for the next part of the continuing Marvel Universe.
The Incredible Hulk will first appear in theaters this June 13, starring Edward Norton as Bruce Banner. We all know how the story goes, scientist Bruce Banner was exposed to Gamma radiation and became the Hulk. That’s that. And now, for some things to watch out for in the movie.
- The main villain Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth) who will eventually became Abomination after also being exposed to Gamma radiation.
- The scientist Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson) appeared in the film. To Marvel fans, he will eventually became another one of Hulks nemesis named, The Leader (in the next film, maybe?). And you’ve probably guessed it how he turned into that. Exposed to Gamma radiation.
- Dr. Leonard Samson (Ty Burrell) is Banner’s psychotherapist in the film. Who will eventually became Doc Samson (on the next film perhaps?), whose hair will become green and granting him superhuman strength proportionate to its length, reminiscent of his biblical namesake. Because of the, surprise surprise, exposure to yet another Gamma radiation.
- Hulk co-creator Stan Lee was unable to fly to the Toronto shoot for his cameo appearance, although a pick-up may have been scheduled for him. Awww too bad…
- And after the end credits? Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) makes his appearance. Only as Tony not as Iron Man.
- And yet another Captain America reference, the Super-Soldier Serum.

And for the next batch after the jump.

Last weekend, I finally got a chance to watch Iron Man, again. It is the 2nd movie I watched twice in a theater, the other one was Transformers last year. I contributed another 110 pesos to the already $100+ million gross on the first week opening of the movie. And… I finally got to see the bonus clip after the credits. But as I got this news this morning, I missed this one…

This is the part where Pepper walks in while Tony Stark is removing the armor from his body. Can you see Captain America’s shield behind him? Sources says that it isn’t confirmed by Marvel yet, while others says what fans would think if Tony Stark is the inventor of Captain America’s shield.
We can see the Marvel Universe characters coming together in this movie. For those who already watched this movie, and for those who haven’t here are a few things you should notice (a summary recap from my previous post), aside from the Cap’s shield above. I’ve arranged the list in order of appearance
- James Rhodes (Terrence Howard), the military guy, and Tony’s closest friend is actually the man behind War Machine. The black/silver armor that looks like Iron Man. Its got more weapons, and is actually heavier and a little bit bulkier than Iron Man’s mark 3 armor. “Next time baby…” Can we expect another movie starring War Machine?
- The terrorist group is named as the Ten Rings. One of the original arch enemy of Iron Man was Mandarin who holds the mystical ten rings of power. Any relation?
- The agent guy who keeps bugging Pepper and Tony stark is a member of the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Espionage Logistics Directorate, or famously known as S.H.I.E.L.D. The agency group controlled by the United Nations (in other stories, U.S.) who sometimes employs super heroes and villains alike to combat powerful threat.
- Stan Lee, co-creator and founder of Marvel Comics made another cameo. This time he was mistaken by Tony Stark as Hugh Hefner (founder of Playboy). You can see him surrounded by girls, after which Tony greeted him.
- In case you didn’t know the name of the villain on the last part of the movie, his name is Iron Monger. The billionaire industrialist Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges) was the first one to use that name.
- And the bonus clip after the credits, showing Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) one of the top agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. talking to Tony Stark about the Avengers initiative.
And for the other upcoming Marvel films on my next post.

Last Wednesday (April 30) my girlfriend and I watched the Iron Man movie. We had to take the last full show because she gets off on her work late 6pm. The movie was well done, and so it the visual effects. It was, for the lack of better word, one of the best movies from Marvel Studios. And because it was the last show, I didn’t see the bonus clip after the end credits.
I’ve already knew the origins of Iron Man and many important characters surrounding him. That was because as early as the year 1990, I was already exposed to the stories of Marvel Universe. Going back to the movie, as I was watching, I carefully observed a lot of characters. And here is my take on some of the characters.
- As Tony Stark arrived at the party during the first half of the film, there was an old guy surrounded by women near the entrance before going inside. He mistakenly greeted him as Hugh Hefner (founder of Playboy). The old guy was actually Stan Lee (creator of Marvel Comics). Stan Lee also had cameos in most Marvel-related films such as Spider-man 1,2,3, X-Men 1,3, Hulk, Daredevil, Fantastic Four 1,2, and more.
- In the film, after Tony Stark goes after the villain, James looked at another uncompleted armor in the basement created by Stark and said “Next time, baby…” Tony Stark’s closest friend, who appears to always nags him is James Rhodes. Most of you won’t ring any bells when hearing his name, but he appears a lot on the film. Why? because he is War Machine. The other armor of Tony Stark which was colored silver/black. Which, if rumors are true, will appear as a spin-off movie from Iron Man.
- There was this agent-guy who keeps popping up and showing before Pepper and Stark. He said he was not in any of the local government agencies, and that their agency name was Strategic Homeland Intervention, Espionage Logistics Directorate. The name was too long that I didn’t mind it at first. Near the end, Pepper asked him for his help. And at the end of the movie, he finally said the shorter version of the name of their agency which was S.H.I.E.L.D. Ah ha! So its them, the popular agency group from Marvel that sometimes hire the world’s best heroes to combat threat.
With this movie, the other various known characters from Marvel Comics are appearing one by one in the films, which may eventually lead to another Marvel Studios film. Now if you’ve watched past the end credits you will see a bonus clip which shows Nick Fury (agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.) talking with Tony Stark.
“At the end of the credits, Stark comes home and finds Nick Fury in his living room -staring towards the window. He then turns to tell Stark he’s the not the only superhero in the world. Stark asks who he is, and Fury turns and says he’s “Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D, and I’m here to talk to you about The Avengers Initiative”. [Tambayan.ph]

Behind Nick Fury we can see various heroes from Marvel. On the left, top to bottom; Iron Man, Thor, and Luke Cage. And on the right; Daredevil, Nick Fury, and Spider-Man.
