Laptop, website, work, J-dorama, updates, there’s no more free time for me

I haven’t posted much this week because of busy schedules and too many pending tasks. Even my weekends are fully booked.

Two Sunday’s ago, my girlfriend wanted me to look at her brand new Compaq laptop (forgot the model). It wasn’t broken, but she wants me to cleanup the system. She already know how organized I am with my files on my computer, and I remove completely anything that I don’t use. Less garbage, less memory and space hogs. The laptop’s OS is Microsoft Vista. I haven’t have enough experience in using that system, and besides I really don’t like Vista (bugs). That’s why if you’ve noticed, Vista tips from my Life Tips posts are suddenly increasing.

Two Saturday’s ago, the whole barkada got another sort of reunion because of the birthday celebration of Alysson (Aldrin’s daughter). Everyone of the original part of the barkada was there, well except of course Mike (who’s already back in Canada), and Jerrue was late to arrive because he came from work. The party was fun, at least for kids anyway. It was a kiddie party.

And hey, here is Kid McDo, yep that’s the actual name of the mascot. I’ve been wondering why the need for a McDo mascot when Ronald is just a clown, and you can just put a guy in a clown suit to represent him.

(that’s a video clip, so sorry for the quality)

Google Reader not working, moving to another aggregator

I haven’t posted anything on Tambayan.ph this past few days, mainly because I can’t access the site for 2 days at home. And when that was fixed, Google Reader is not loading properly on my browser. The site works on another computer outside, but not at home. I’m using Firefox 2.0.0.14 but it doesn’t load. I tried using Internet Explorer 6 and Opera, but still the same problem. The settings page on Google Reader is working though, but that’s just it. I also tried passing the website through a proxy in case my ISP is the one with a problem, still no luck.

Google Reader not loading

I don’t think my system or connection has a problem because all other Google sites is working, and even the settings page on Google Reader is working. The only thing not loading is the front page. I tried cleaning my cache, removing temp files, and reload the page, but still the same blank page appears. I looked around the net for possible solutions to this problem, but there wasn’t any. I came across a post that says Google Reader only works properly when using Internet Explorer 7. Well, that sucks, I don’t even want to use IE. The only good thing for Google Reader for now is that its settings page is still working, so that I can export my feeds, and import it to another service.

Google Reader settings

Since I can’t view my feeds from Google Reader (started last May 7, 2008), I’ll just move all my subscriptions to another feed aggregator. My two choices are: Bloglines and Fastladder. I created an account on both webware, then tried to add my feeds into it.

Bloglines is one of the popular RSS around, even before Google Reader arrived. Although the only thing I don’t want about it is that it loads much slower than Google Reader. On the other hand, Fastladder loads twice as fast, but have less features than Bloglines. I’m going to try both, separating my 192 subscription feeds on both products.

I also posted the same problem at Google Groups just in case ’someone’ will reply.

Here are some stuff I tried doing to fix it, but no success.

  • Load it on Firefox 2.0.0.14 browser. Don’t even suggest upgrading my browser to FF 3 beta, I don’t want to use a buggy software.
  • Load it on Internet Explorer 6.0. There are ’some’ who says that it works on IE 7. I downloaded the installer from Microsoft, and tried installing it. The installation contains errors and can’t continue. Well, so much for that. Besides, I don’t want to use IE, ever.
  • Load it on Opera 9.27. Still not working.
  • I reloaded the page many times on each browser, and waited for hours just to see if it will load. But it didn’t.
  • Cleaned the temp files and cache for all browser and even used CCleaner to remove everything, then reload the website. Still no luck.
  • Tried running the website through a proxy server. Still a blank page appears.
  • I reconnected my Internet connection, but that didn’t helped.

Google Reader is a good feed aggregator, but it seems I have to move to another one just because of this problem. Even if I can access it on ’some’ other computer or ’some’ other internet provider, but if I can’t access it on my PC at home, it’s totally useless.

Random Thoughts #2

I should get a notebook to organize my thoughts. Random stuff happens all the time, and most of the time, I forget to blog/post it. It’s not really interesting, just a way to get it out of my thoughts. And you should wonder why this post is in the “Random Rants” category. You see, even my sentences doesn’t make sense. It’s all random, I tell you. Random #1

  • Already finished 4 of 7 J-doramas I’m currently watching. By tomorrow I should finish Proposal Daisakusen.
  • Is Yamashita Tomohisa (山下智久) that popular actor in Japan? I’ve already seen him in four J-doramas. That includes (1) Kurosagi, with Horikita Maki, (2) Nobuta wo Produce, again with Horikita Maki, (3) Proposal Daisakusen, and (4) Dragon Zakura. I should ask the girls that question.
  • I feel frustrated about not being able to play Audition Online. I haven’t been able to play that game for a couple of days now. And just yesterday, I applied another major patch but my game won’t run. I guess it’s a way of telling me to quit playing.
  • I haven’t acquired the three badges from PMOG to which I’ve already complete the requirements in more than a month. And I also lost the alpha badge.
  • I’m thinking of getting a 4×4x4 Rubik’s cube or a 5×5x5 Rubik’s cube. Since I’ve already mastered the regular 3×3x3 Rubik’s cube, it seems too boring to solve it. And now almost everybody can solve it, of at least trying to. I’ve seen people from all ages in different places holding a Rubik’s cube. The 5×5x5 cube costs around 600 php at National Bookstore, and as for the 4×4x4 I haven’t seen one yet. There’s also that 2×2x2 cube, for around 200 php.
  • And what’s with people hanging stuff around their neck. If you are one, don’t flame me for this post ok. There are more and more people hanging cellphone around their neck. Small ones are somewhat acceptable, but not large smartphones. You, yes you the guy/babe with a N90 or SE P990. This reminds me of a time while I was walking towards the gate at our subdivision. I saw a guy (definitely a guy) with a cellphone dangling around his neck. His phone was small, which is ok, but the worst part of it is his phone’s keychain. It was a bear, not just an ordinary bear, but a bear larger than the phone itself. I tried to keep my poker face as I passed by him, and said to myself, “WTF was that”.
  • Oh and don’t even think of hanging your PSP or Nintendo DS. I’ve seen a few of this roaming around malls. Don’t try bragging you have a unit that cost around 11k, you just look stupid with a sign, please make me a victim of a hold-up. Oh and while your at it, why don’t you hang your laptop too so you will look like a pabitin.
  • I’m also wondering where are all the traffic from my 2nd most commented post coming from. But I’m not complaining, thanks guys and gals. I think the commenter’s there are mostly girls, based on the replies.
  • Playboy is already here in the Philippines. Yey! Playboy Philippines. It’s much more tamer than FHM. Boo! What’s the point of calling it Playboy, if it isn’t Playboy.
  • Philippines TV hostess and soap actress Ira Eigenmann has a leaked nude photo scandal. That’s according to various adult related sources which unfortunately I couldn’t link here. How come I always read news like this first from an International source, when I’m already here in the Philippines. I’ve already seen the photos, and I can rate it to a scale of 8.5/10.
  • And lastly. How come I wasn’t born in Japan? Answer to that in the next post.

N2S: I should get a notebook or anything to write on. And a good pen too.

Ciao.

Upgrading too soon?

The much awaited Wordpress 2.5 will be released in a couple of days, but will you upgrade your Wordpress blogs immediately after its release?

Since it skipped 2.4 we can expect a major overhaul for our blogging software. New features will be added, old features will be enhanced, and bugs sorted out. Of course, most of us (Wordpress users) like to try out these exciting new changes as soon as possible.

But not for me.

The same reason why I’m still using WinXP instead of upgrading to WinVista. Most programs I regularly use are still not usable in Vista. And Vista contains lots of bugs than XP.

The moment you immediately upgrade to Wordpress 2.5 to more chances your plugins are going to break.

I usually wait after a couple of days (weeks) before upgrading anything. I look out for news, blog posts, comments, etc. about the software I’m going to upgrade to. If I see a lot of negative feedbacks, like this not working or that breaking, then I think twice before upgrading.

I don’t want my blog to be running in WP 2.5 with half the plugins not working or the theme I use breaking.

So I’ll wait, till the dust settles…

Konshu hiatus

It’s been a week since I last posted here. I’m doing a lot of stuff online and offline. Anyway, here are some thoughts and events that transpired within the week that passed.

  • According to my PMOG page, I’ve been playing it for 8 days now. Last week, I’ve installed the PMOG toolbar on my Firefox and from that day, I’ve been busy jumping from one website to another. I need the Datapoints from websites all over the web to level up.
  • Last Saturday, until Sunday, I tried to get the Indie badge from PMOG. The only condition is that I don’t go to any Google site, like Google reader or the Goole search page, within 24 hours online. I successfully completed that, but the badge still hasn’t appeared on my profile. I don’t know if that condition is affected by the Google analytics that is loading in the background from other websites aside from Google, like this blog for instance. I’m not sure if the PMOG toolbar monitors the URL at the address bar or the cache on my browser to determine if I haven’t visited any Google related site. If it is the latter, then I haven’t completed the 24 hours condition, since I visited this blog and my Tambayan.ph blog which contains Google analytics internally, thus loading a Google site in my Firefox cache.
  • Last night my primary association at PMOG turned from Shoat to Bedouin. Then early this morning Bedouin became my secondary association, then Benefactor became my primary. I don’t know what is happening, or there are some internal changes in the game (since it is still in Beta), but I was aiming to become a Seer.
  • As of this post, I still need 240 Datapoints to level up. I’m still at level 1 because I seldom go to websites externally, and most of them are already in my feed reader.
  • I’m planning to add a whole new section in this blog. I’m thinking along the lines of games, videos, music, and babes. I was thinking of launching these new sections by March 1. If this idea pushes through, then expect more content here.
  • When I encountered the Funny UST Scandal.avi.exe (Win32/Autoit.BD worm) virus from a friend’s USB flash drive, I was tempted to infect my PC with it, then create a removal process. Just like I did with the SSCVIHOST.exe worm. I scratched that idea, but I still want to create a guide to remove it.

That’s it for today, expect more posts by March.

BTW, the Japanese word konshu means “this week”.
