I was looking at my keyboard here in the office when I noticed the text printed on the underside of the keys. It shows common keyboard shortcuts.
Users of Windows OS may have familiarized themselves with keyboard shortcuts and the true functions of the function (F) keys. I don’t know of anyone who are new to Windows-based system, except those who embraced the freedom of Unix/Linux while they were young or those who are Mac advocates.
Here are some of the few commonly used keyboard shortcuts when you type in a text editor or browse in your browser.
For Function Keys
F1 = is usually for Help
F2 = is Rename (highlight a file then press)
F3 = is for Find function, same with CTRL+F
ALT+F4 = closes current active Window
F5 = Refresh, same with CTRL+R
F6 = used on browsers, moves the cursor and highlights the text at the URL address bar (same with CTLR+L).
F8 = When you boot your computer, pressing F8 before Windows starts, it will load a selective menu.
F11 = Switches browser window to full screen
For text higlighting
SHIFT+Home = Select all chars to the left of the cursor position
SHIFT+End = Select all chars to the right of the cursor position
SHIFT+PageUp = Select all chars to the left and above the cursor position
SHIFT+PageDown = Select all chars to the right and below the cursor position
CTRL+A = Select all text
TAB = moves cursor focus
SHIFT+TAB = moves cursor focus in reverse
For text editing, after highlighting
CTRL+X = Cut
CTRL+C = Copy
CTRL+V = Paste
CTRL+B = Bold
CTRL+U = Underline
CTRL+I = Italics
For document commands
CTRL+N = New document or file
CTRL+O = Open document or file
CTRL+S = Save file
CTRL+Z = Undo
CTRL+Y = Redo
For window switching
Hold ALT, then TAB = switches window
Hold ALT+SHIFT, then TAB = switches window in reverse
Hold CTRL, then TAB = switches browser tab
Hold CTRL+SHIFT, then TAB = switches browser tab in reverse
