So it’s true. Both versions of the series will be played on the same day at a local channel here in the Philippines. Starting March 24, Hanazakari no Kimitachi e (Hana Kimi / Japan) will be aired on GMA, while Hanazakarino Kimitachihe (Hana Kimi / Taiwan) is on ABS-CBN.
Both series are based on the Japanese manga Hana-Kimi by Hisaya Nakajo. Since both are based on the same story, the plot and characters are essentially the same. The only difference is how both drama portray the story, and of course their names. A rough English translation of the drama is “For You In Full Blossom”.
Hanazakarino Kimitachihe (Hana Kimi / Taiwan) runs in 15 90-minute episodes and is longer than the Japanese version. It was first shown in Taiwan in the late 2006. The three major characters are Lu Rui Xi (Ella Chen; based on Mizuki Ashiya), Zuo Yi Quan (Wu Chun; based on Izumi Sano), and Jin Xiu Yi (Jiro Wang; based on Shuichi Nakatsu).
I can’t comment on this one since I haven’t watched this version, yet. But my girlfriend told me that the leading man on this version is more “cuter” than the Japanese version. I told her that she is biased on the Korean/Chinese dramas. Or maybe “I am” the one who is biased on the Japanese one.
Hanazakari no Kimitachi e (Hana Kimi / Japan) uses the exact name of the characters from the manga since it is originally from Japan. This series runs on 12 episodes, with 54 minute each, so it is shorter than the Taiwanese version. The 3 major cast are, the ever cute Horikita Maki as Ashiya Mizuki, Oguri Shun as Sano Izumi, and Ikuta Toma as Nakatsu Shuichi. This series aired in Japan on the 2nd-half of last year (2007).
This is one of the first few J-doramas (Japanese dramas) I’ve watched since last year and the second series I’ve actually recommended to my girlfriend (the other one was Liar Game). The show was full of humor and a little bit of drama. In the last few minutes of the last episode, expect heavy drama (^_^). I liked this series for two reasons; (1) because of the humor and wild antics of the cast, and (2) because of Horikita Maki (this is the first series I’ve known and seen her.)

I’m not starting a fight and I didn’t say that Ella is a pig, I never used such words. Perhaps somebody else did so wag mong isumbat sa kin yun.
And one more thing, I don’t care about the network wars so I don’t care if you say mas magaling ang ABS sa GMA or mas magaling ang GMA sa ABS coz for me pareho silang may flaws and pareho din silang may nagawang mabuti para sa industriya ng Pilipinas. But if you ask me if I prefer to watch any channel, I would say manunuod na lang ako ng cable, mas maganda pa ang palabas sa ibang foreign channels. Personal preference lang yun.
I didn’t say Ikuta Toma is a singer although if you read his profile sa internet nakalagay dun actor/singer. But I wasn’t referring to him but to actors like Matsumoto Jun, Akanishi Jin, Ninomiya Kazunari, Sakurai Sho, Kamenashi Kazuya, Otsuka Ai, Iwata Sayuri, etc. These guys are from bands Arashi, KAT-TUN and solo Jpop artists, and they also starred in series like Hana Yori Dango, Yamada Taro Monogatari, Bambino, Yukan Club, Nobuta Wo Produce, Tokyo Friends, GTO, Gokusen, Jigoku Shojo. If you haven’t heard of them or watched any of those shows it’s because you’re too prejudiced against Japanese artists and jdoramas.
But if you go to the States and Europe they’re quite well known, especially Jrock bands like Asian Kung Fu Generation and Orange Range. Anime and manga is a huge business not just in Japan but in Asia, Europe and the US. It’s because of these anime na nakilala ang mga Jpop and Jrock artists, daan lang yun para makilala ang mga talents nila. If they weren’t any good, they wouldn’t attain the kind of fame they’re now enjoying, hindi naman sira ulo ang mga music listeners to patronize an artist just because narinig nila sa anime yun. If you watch anime you’ve heard of them too. Most of these artists are featured in famous anime like Naruto, Full Metal Alchemist, Bleach.
Hindi ko minamaliit ang mga Taiwanese artists, mind you! I actually admire them kasi sa Taiwan importante may talent ka, hindi tulad dito sa atin na kahit walang talent basta anak ng artista, may kapit, may itsura okay na. But I guess it’s just a matter of preference for me, I don’t like Taiwanese pop music simply because they’re too pop sounding, I’m more of a rock music fan. But it’s not a culture thing for me. Even though I’m not from Taiwan and I don’t have Taiwanese blood but I come from a Chinese family. My Mandarin is not very good though, my grandfather was born in a province in China and was raised in Hong Kong so he spoke Cantonese and we speak mostly Amoy around the house. I only learned some basic Mandarin in school. So ba’t ko mamaliitin ang kulturang pinanggalingan ko?
I’m just defending Japanese artists because I’ve been an anime fan all my life hanggang sa nahilig ako sa manga, jdorama at jpop and jrock. I feel na naaabuso sila dahil sa pesteng network wars na yan. Kung mas nagagandahan ka sa HKT well then fine! Opinion mo yan and honestly, okay naman ang HKT eh kahit hindi maganda ang ending. I just prefer HKJ dahil mas natawa ako dun at hindi dahil sa Kapuso ako. Tingin ko kasi mas nagustuhan mo lang ang HKT dahil Kapamilya ka. Pano kung sa GMA napunta ang HKT. magagandahan ka pa rin kaya?
By the way, the rumored jdorama na nabili ng ABS is Strawberry on the Shortcake. It’s a good jdorama at isa sa mga pinaka bago ngayon. Abangan niyo, maganda yun.

Ah ok. It’s good that you’re also proud of your Filipino heritage. I am not purely Filipino either, I have Chinese blood from my mother side. I wish I could speak Mandarin better para magkaintindihan tayo. Kaso Cantonese speaking family kami eh, probinsyanong intsik kasi ang lolo ko.
I agree, mas sikat si Wu Chun and Jiro Wang because of Fahrenheit but mostly in Asia lang. I like Wu Chun in fact. I recently watched Romantic Princess. I also like his leading lady Angela Zhang, I loved her in Love at Dophin Bay. No offense to you since alam kong gusto mo si Ella, but I think mas bagay si Angela at si Wu Chun. I like their pairing in Romantic Princess.
May galit ka ba sa mga Hapon? Curious lang wag kang magalit. Don’t be prejudiced against Japanese artists and jdoramas, you might find them entertaining too. You can’t judge them from watching just one or two jdoramas. Kung mga guapong Japanese actors ang hinahanap mo, try looking up Yamashita Tomohisa from Nobuta Wo Produce and Shirota Yu from Prince of Tennis, he was also in Hana Kimi Japan, he played Kagurazaka. Both actors are also musicians.

Ah it’s the Taiwanese series based on the shojo manga Itazura na Kiss. A Japanese version was made back in 1996 starring Yukie Nakama. Both versions are okay.

i like the taiwan version…In my opinion, its better…though im done watching it before it started airing here in the phil, i can’t help but watch it again and again! its true that the ending is quite disappointing, but what’s more important is that we all enjoyed ryt? haha…I know that a lot of fans out there who supported the love team of chun and ella are HOPING that there would be a 2nd season…but i think its hopeless…it was aired in taiwan late 2006 but until now we are still not sure if there would be a sequel…sooo depressed…=( hope that if there really is, it will really really be confirmed this time..bcoz lots of news are coming out that there would be a sequel that came out to be a PRANK! Guys those of you who said that there would be a sequel of the taiwan version…you sure about that? pls tell me ur sure haha i’ve been waiting for a sequel for over a year now! i konw you are too! hahaha thanks!!! =) hana kimi rules! taiwan or jap version okok no fighting! =))

The taiwanese is better because ella is much more funnier n she really makes her character cute and very likable….i really liked the first ep of the taiwanese version whereas the japanese the first ep seemed boring…n also wu chun is better looking…..if u want to know which is better to watch….the taiwanese version is much better because it captures the humuor, the chemistry between the leads in such a perfect way. The setting also looks nicer. When watching this u will have a feeling of wishing that u actually go to a boarding school because the surroundings seemed alot of fun to be in!
This version seems like a fantasy but at the same times is belivable!
