uruudoshi, leap year 2008

Every four years, an added day on February appears. When there’s a 29th day on February, the year is called a leap year.

A leap year (or intercalary year) is a year containing one or more extra days (or, in case of lunisolar calendars, an extra month) in order to keep the calendar year synchronised with the astronomical or seasonal year.

A person born on February 29 may be called a “leapling“. In common years they usually celebrate their birthdays on 28 February or 1 March. For legal purposes, their legal birthdays depend on how different laws count time intervals. In some situations, March 1 is used as the birthday in a non-leap year since it then is the day just after February 28.

In Japanese, leap year translates to the word uruudoshi.

Uruudoshi is composed of 閏(uruu)+年(toshi)=year. The kanji “uruu” is structured of two kanji 門(mon)=gate and 王(ou)=king, it ’s an deogram. [In leap year the king would stay inside the gate, never go out, it’s not regular thing.] That is to say “urudoshi” has the meaning of an irregular year.

In short.

uruu = leap
doshi = toshi = year

‘uruu bi’ = leap day (=bi)
‘uruu byou’ = leap second (=byou)
‘uruu zuki’ = leap year’s feb.

Konshu hiatus

It’s been a week since I last posted here. I’m doing a lot of stuff online and offline. Anyway, here are some thoughts and events that transpired within the week that passed.

  • According to my PMOG page, I’ve been playing it for 8 days now. Last week, I’ve installed the PMOG toolbar on my Firefox and from that day, I’ve been busy jumping from one website to another. I need the Datapoints from websites all over the web to level up.
  • Last Saturday, until Sunday, I tried to get the Indie badge from PMOG. The only condition is that I don’t go to any Google site, like Google reader or the Goole search page, within 24 hours online. I successfully completed that, but the badge still hasn’t appeared on my profile. I don’t know if that condition is affected by the Google analytics that is loading in the background from other websites aside from Google, like this blog for instance. I’m not sure if the PMOG toolbar monitors the URL at the address bar or the cache on my browser to determine if I haven’t visited any Google related site. If it is the latter, then I haven’t completed the 24 hours condition, since I visited this blog and my Tambayan.ph blog which contains Google analytics internally, thus loading a Google site in my Firefox cache.
  • Last night my primary association at PMOG turned from Shoat to Bedouin. Then early this morning Bedouin became my secondary association, then Benefactor became my primary. I don’t know what is happening, or there are some internal changes in the game (since it is still in Beta), but I was aiming to become a Seer.
  • As of this post, I still need 240 Datapoints to level up. I’m still at level 1 because I seldom go to websites externally, and most of them are already in my feed reader.
  • I’m planning to add a whole new section in this blog. I’m thinking along the lines of games, videos, music, and babes. I was thinking of launching these new sections by March 1. If this idea pushes through, then expect more content here.
  • When I encountered the Funny UST Scandal.avi.exe (Win32/Autoit.BD worm) virus from a friend’s USB flash drive, I was tempted to infect my PC with it, then create a removal process. Just like I did with the SSCVIHOST.exe worm. I scratched that idea, but I still want to create a guide to remove it.

That’s it for today, expect more posts by March.

BTW, the Japanese word konshu means “this week”.

Ichiblognniversary

I have been ‘officially’ blogging for exactly one year today. I tried blogging a couple of times in the past years, but I really didn’t stick to it. I don’t know the reason, but every time I start a new blog, after a few entries I close it. Xanga, Zopia, Blogger, LiveJournal, and other forgotten free blog service, I’ve tried it all, but closed my account after a few weeks.

Last year when two (1, 2) of my co-workers convinced me to start blogging, I gave it another try. I was hesitant at first because I really have nothing to blog about nor have the passion of a blogger. Still, I gave it another shot. Created another blog at blogger and named it, Coldmoondrops.

Here is the first post I made at Coldmoondrops, and my very first post as a blogger.

It was late at night. The moon is shining brightly on a clear sky. The air is somewhat musky but cool nonetheless. Shadows of light poles can be seen across the dusty road. Houses on the right side and vast fields on the left. These are the first things I’ve noticed when I came back to this place. I never thought I would go back here again, but fate decided I visit this place once again. For what? Reconciliation? Forgiveness? I don’t now. Reason and purpose seems to escape me every time I look for it. No matter. I will never see this place again, maybe, I’m not sure. I’m not always sure. I’ve been living my life going to where destiny wants me to go. I seldom decide for myself what I want to do or where I want to go. I just follow the flow of life. Like a fallen leaf swimming across a river. Uncertain on where it would go or what will happen. Well… whatever happens, happens… that’s what I always say. But this place, I have a lot of memories here. I was happy the very day I arrived here, it was just a visit really, but what happened was more that just a simple visit. It was somewhat destined to happen…

Hi, this is my first entry for my blog here at blogger. I’m not really a good writer but I’ll try my best to post stuff about… well… just about anything I can think of. This is not my first blog (don’t ask about the old ones), but I’ll try to update this from time to time. Also I can only write if the following conditions exist: (1) I have too much time at work, (2) I thought of something worth writing, and (3) I’m inspired. Don’t mind the grammatical and/or spelling errors, I tend to write not to notice those things =)

So that’s my short into… oh and welcome ^_^

I already stopped blogging at Coldmoondrops, and continued my personal blog here at Eternalmoonlight.net. Some of the entries there have been imported at this site. And I’m also planning to close Coldmoondrops after a few days, or just delete the posts there.

I’m also glad that I got into blogging. Not only did I helped a lot of people, but also learned many things. I even made my other site, a blog site. I’m wishing for another year of blogging to learn, share, and help.

Regarding the title, ichi means one (1) in sino-Japanese, and in native-Japanese it is hitotsu.

Nurse Licensure Examination test results (February 21, 2008)

Every time there’s an exam result coming up regarding Nurses (Nursing), my mom and my other relatives, always reminds me to look for the results on the Internet. I’ve already subscribed the exam result page at Inquirer to my feed reader, but I think it’s not updating properly. Anyway, if you are having trouble finding the results, here are the links to get you started.

All the exam results can be found at http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/examresults/. Everything is there, from Aeronautical Engineering to Midwife, from Nurse to Veterinarian.

The Nursing Board Exam Results for December 2007 was released just today, February 21, 2008. You can view it at http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/examresults/NURSE/20080221/

NURSE LICENSURE EXAMINATION - RETAKERS AS PER C.A. DECISION can be found at
/NURSE_LICENSURE_EXAMINATION_-_RETAKERS_AS_PER_C.A._DECISION/20080221/

NURSE LICENSURE EXAMINATION - RETAKERS FOR C.G.F.N.S. is at
/NURSE_LICENSURE_EXAMINATION_-_RETAKERS_FOR_C.G.F.N.S./20080221/

Unlike last year, they didn’t released the PDF format with contains the whole list of names, instead they broke down the names by letters of the surnames. So if you are looking for your name click on the first letter of your surname. I guess they did that so the page load on a single page will not be heavy, but right now I’m having errors accessing some of their page.

UPDATE: I found out after I posted this, that there are some pages in Inquirer that are not linked properly. So If you are having trouble going to a certain page (because it is crashing due to server load), you can visit other sites for the results list.

Nana-Anniversary

It’s been a while since I wrote personal stuff here, and since this is still a personal blog (and is now turning into a repository of informations, technological ideas, random stuff, and all things geeky) I’ll squeeze in a few personal related posts. You can just skip this post if your not interested. Hehe.

To start off, today the 18th of February 2008 is the 7th anniversary of my girlfriend and me. That means we’ve known each other for more than 7 years. We usually celebrate our anniversary (and monthsarry) on the 17th of the month, but the official date is 18. Take note however, that we are not married yet, anyway I’ll give you a quick flashback.
