Thanks for the greets

Although I didn’t really celebrated my birthday yesterday, I went out with my girlfriend, and the whole night we spent together was a blast. Even before yesterday, some of my friends (and others that knew me) already greeted me a Happy Birthday and stuff like that. Anyway here is a list I made that greeted me on the exact day (Oct. 20) of my birthday. I hope it’s complete and didn’t miss anyone, but if I did miss someone, please post a reply so I can include you.

  • Jerrue, one of my closest friend and barkada since high school and college, sent a text message at 12:46 am, I didn’t saw it until I woke up in the morning. Well he’s the first one who greeted me on that day.
  • Next on the list is Reah, my manager at my former work at ONEGCC. She left a message on my YM at 1:12 am, I replied back after I woke up that morning.
  • Another one from high school, and former schoolmate, Sharon who greeted me with a comment at Friendster around 4:53 am (converted to local time from 19/10/2007 13:53).
  • My girlfriend, Jo-anne, greeted and woke me up at 5:52 am. Left a text message accompanied with the ringing tone of a missed call from my phone.
  • Don, a regular member of Darkmoon and also an author at Tambayan.ph, left a message for me on the Tambayan.ph Cbox at 6:55 am.
  • John (my girlfriend’s younger brother) and his wife Karen sent a text greeting at 7:17 am.

A semi-eventful week

Last Tuesday (Oct. 16) I went to Caloocan City hall to get myself a Cedula, which I needed for the supposed meeting on Thursday. Also, I passed by the mall to watch a streaming video of the new series of Heroes season 2, which unfortunately I didn’t finished because their stream was too slow. Anyway, I’ll just wait for my cousin to finish downloading the latests episodes then I’ll just watch it at the comfort of my room.

Last Thursday (Oct. 18) I went to Makati with my aunt, half-sister and her son, and my cousin and her boyfriend. Anyway, we just went there to finish signing ‘important documents’ from our lawyer. Another highlight of the trip was my half-sister asked me to help her son build a custom PC. Ok so we are aiming for a high-end PC because my nephew’s course in college is 3D animation, that means high graphics and high memory, powered with high capacity and fast processing power. The specs?

Motherboard: MSI K9N NEO-F NFORCE 550/SOCKET AM2/1000FSB/DDR2
Processor: Athlon 64 X2 4400 Dual core processor (Box) socket AM2
RAM: Transcend 1GB DDR2 PC667 memory (x2, totaling 2 GB of RAM)
Graphics Card: Powercolor ATI HD2600XT DDR3 PCIE 512MB TV 128BUT DVI
Hard Drive: Hitachi 160GB SATA
Optical Drive: Sony DRU-835A 18X/8X DL 8.5GB Light scribe Dual layer DVD-/+

Although I always recommend ASUS (motherboard) using nVIDIA chipset (graphics card) running on an Intel core duo (processor), he specifically stated, he wants AMD Athlon (processor) with ATI chipset (graphics card) so we settled on a MSI motherboard. Anyway, we tested his rig using my favorite Need For Speed Carbon game with all setting and details set to high or maximum, and well… the result? no lag whatsoever. After getting a hands-on to his gaming rig, I’m more encouraged to upgrade my relatively slow PC to match his.

Yesterday, Friday (Oct. 19) my nephew wanted to buy a new cellphone so he asked me to accompany him at the local mall. He’s going back to the province (Naga city) later that evening. Sony Ericsson K750i was his choice, features? A media player to play videos, music, and view photos. A built-in speaker with MegaBass™ to broadcast what music you are listening to. Supports Bluetooth, USB cable, and video streaming. GPRS is also supported, with expandable micro memory stick. It has a flash when shooting the camera, and uses the QuickShare technology.

Talk about expensive shopping, 29,000 for the PC unit plus 7,650 for the brand new cellphone, plus other ’stuff’ that they need. My half-sister and her son only stayed here for just two days, and went back to Naga City the next day.

Today, Saturday (Oct. 20) is my birthday, but I’m planning to have the celebration by Saturday (Oct. 27) next week so that most of my friends can come. I just hope all of the ones I specifically invited would show up. Hehehe. Anyway, my plans for today is to just go out with my girlfriend, after her work later this evening. We didn’t go out last Wednesday (Oct. 17) to celebrate our monthsarry, so we have to go out today.

PLDT sucks!!!

PLDT Vibe is the only internet connection we have at our place, because our house is located somewhere in Google’s map but is almost far from society commercialized areas. And for almost four days, their service is really fucked up. I called them three times already, but the problem still persists. It’s a damn browsing problem, well that’s what they say. In short, I can’t visit other websites but can visit some. Sooooo… the Internet only connects to some servers, but not on others. Good thing, I can still open my own websites, and Google. But damn, I can’t open Facebook.

My cousin already applied for PLDT DSL few many years ago. But PLDT said, they can’t connect us using their DSL line. WTF!!! My aunt has a PLDT DSL line at their place near the highway in-front or our subdivision. If my estimation is right, it is just around 300 meters from our place, and also my cousin. Their lame excuse? They can’t bring the line inside our subdivision.

PLDT is definitely bringing out bad VIBES these days.

No Littering

Even when I was still a little kid, I adopted a habit of not throwing anything anywhere. If I ate a candy, I usually put the wrapper in my pocket until I find a place with a trash can or until I get home. There are also times that I forget that I have a small piece of candy wrapper in my pocket, that I only noticed it when I’m doing the laundry.

I was glad that, my old habits are still with me as I grow older. My latest girlfriend also acquired this trait from me. Although, we sometimes fight over little things such as, when she has a tissue or a plastic wrapper she wants to throw away but then I get it from her and keep it in my pocket (or bag pocket if I’m carrying a bag) until we find a trash can. I never did blame her for throwing things, but what I did was train her so that she would not litter just about anywhere. We’ve been together for 6 years, and I’m happy to say that she eventually adopted my childhood habit.

Unfortunately, during the course of our relationship, I also acquired her habit. Sometimes, just sometimes, that little piece of candy wrapper gets thrown outside the car window. I know, it’s not my way, but sometimes it gets to me.

I was never an environmentalist, but in such a little way of not littering, that small step can prevent a large scale disaster such as flash floods. Small things done by a single person can make a large scale impact. Such is the way of the Butterfly Effect.

The phrase refers to the idea that a butterfly’s wings might create tiny changes in the atmosphere that ultimately cause a tornado to appear (or prevent a tornado from appearing). The flapping wing represents a small change in the initial condition of the system, which causes a chain of events leading to large-scale phenomena. Had the butterfly not flapped its wings, the trajectory of the system might have been vastly different. (Wiki).

Resident Evil 3, overrated?

I guess so. The movie topped the box office in its opening week in North America and has a few great reviews. But is it another zombie-movie-flick? A group of zombie-fanatics doesn’t think so. Because in its most basic definition, a zombie is a dead person that is reanimated by the use of voodoo, so a virus doesn’t count.

After watching the movie just yesterday, with my girlfriend of course, I could give two words to describe it. AWESOME and WTF. Ok so WTF is technically three words. Here are my own reactions and comments taking on Resident Evil: Extinction.

WARNING: spoilers ahead

  • Sponsored by Sony? When they test the medicine induced zombie for signs of intelligence, he is given 3 items. A Sony Ericsson mobile phone (a phone lovable even by zombies), a Sony Cybershot digital camera (which is so easy to use, even zombies can use it), and a crappy shapes puzzle box, which ironically the only toy the zombie doesn’t like. Uhm… is it because it is not made from Sony? Even the laptops they use at the station are Sony Viao.
  • Another brand plugging is K-Mart. Why the hell would they name a character with a store. She has a real name for Christ sake, which is Dahlia. And, oh you’ve probably guess it, she didn’t die in the movie.
  • There are thousands of zombies around the Umbrella Corporation facility at the desert. How come their relatively small fence doesn’t break, its just a fence, not a full steel barrier.
  • The AI computer, White Queen, is helping Alice near the end of the movie. If she controls the all computers in the whole facility, how come she didn’t stop the laser-cutters that almost cut Alice to shreds? The White Queen knows that Alice is the key to stopping the T-Virus and the preservation of human life which is the primary objective of the AI.
  • The Tyrant is one large monster-zombie thing that killed all the personnel at the facility. Why the hell is he sneaking around for? He could just have attacked Alice directly since he knows that he can regenerate and cannot be killed. Almost.
  • Judging by Alice’s actions and capability; possessing super-human strength, telekinesis, partial technokinesis, and is unaffected by the T-virus, she’s virtually un-killable.
  • When the group separated, you get a cliff hanger and then you could probably say “WTF happened to the survivors?”
  • I can say that only 5% of the people from the caravan survived because the helicopter can only fit a few people. So their trip to Las Vegas was definitely a suicide mission.
  • If they plan to make a RE 4 sequel, then we will see a lot of Alice’s battling against a lot more of zombies. It’s an all out death match between hundreds of Alice, and thousands of Zombies.
  • When they were fighting the zombiefied crows, I said to my girlfriend, “why the hell they were using guns on the birds? don’t they have some sort of a mass-kill weapon like a flamethrower?” Then when the scene with the flamethrower was shown, I said, “its about time they use their brains.”

So there, that’s my rants for the movie. Anyway, the movie is still great and worth watching (its even worth the price you paid to watch the movie).

(Alice demonstrating her control over a large fire using telekinesis, and if zombies use guns, she can probably stop bullets too.)
